Overview
My Role
MasterControl builds highly regulated, enterprise-grade quality management software used across life sciences and manufacturing industries. Designing for this product means operating with precision, every decision is intentional, every design work within the boundaries and is reviewed by the team, and the margin for ambiguity is near zero.
As a Product Design Intern within a large design team, I contributed at the level of a full designer. I owned projects independently, collaborated across teams, and delivered work that advanced both the design system and the product itself. This role gave me direct exposure to what it means to design inside a complex, regulated SaaS environment, and it shaped the way I think about and interact with design systems, product responsibility, prototyping and complex problem solving for users.

Audit & Migration
The Problem
The design system was migrating from Confluence to Knapsack, a full, high-stakes migration requiring a documented source of truth for every component and style in the product. No recent documentation existed for typography throughout the entire product and without it, the migration could not proceed accurately.
Product Typography Audit
I conducted a solo audit of the entire MasterControl product, documenting every font size, weight, and style in use across the platform. I cross referenced the audit and all of the current typography with the documented instances in Confluence, as well as the component library in Figma. In the process, I identified and reported 8 typography inconsistencies: conflicting scales, undefined tokens, and applied styles that deviated from the design system.
The resulting audit document became the foundational reference to address inconsistencies and errors in the product itself, as well as inconsistencies in confluence that needed to be updated and addressed before the migration to Knapsack. that unblocked the migration and gave the design system team the accuracy they needed to proceed.
Projects
Global Form Builder
The form builder is a critical component in the MasterControl product, powering form creation across multiple apps. The existing interface needed re-designing to make the complex form building structure flow more easily for users. Adding fields, sections, and logic required more steps than it should, and the interaction model wasn't quite intuitive for the complexity of the tasks users were trying to complete. primarily focusing on simplifying the process in which the user can add sections and elements to the builder in an intuitive manner.
My Approach
I conducted extensive research into industry standards for form building UI, analyzing form builder interfaces from various SaaS platforms to identify patterns and repeated use cases. Using those findings as a foundation, I produced multiple UI iterations, each targeting a specific improvement to the add-section and add-element workflow.
The goal was reduce cognitive load, place controls where users expect them, and make a complex tool feel natural.
AMx Structure Builder
The AMx structure builder is used within the AMx app. It allows users to build complex production flows and document structures, procedures that can span dozens of steps, dependencies, and nested configurations. The existing structure builder reflected that complexity back at the user rather than absorbing it, and task was to try to streamline the process and make it as intuitive and simple as possible.
My Approach
Being part of a small group within the design to team to re-design the structure builder, My focus was on restructuring the builder's UI and interaction flow. My goal was to clarify the hierarchy creating a smoother end-to-end experience for users building production workflows. The changes made seem very small due to the complexity of the structure builder, but simplifying the smallest aspects of the builder would lead to big changes.

Impact
A Real World Difference
In my short time at MasterControl I was able to complete 3 projects, 1 solo audit, identifying inconsistencies and resolving them, assisting in the migration of an complex design system, and contributing to industry standard re-designs on a regulated SaaS product with real enterprise stakes. This taught me what design looks like when every decision carries weight, and how to work within a large team with bigger goals and problems than what I am normally used to. I left MasterControl with a stronger command of industry product design in so many different areas of UX and UI, and a clearer understanding of what it means to operate above your title.
